start by (day)dreaming together

What does your ideal wedding day look like?

If you felt no external pressure from family, friends or tradition, no budget or time constraints, and could be anywhere in the world… What would it look like?

There’s no right or wrong way to make it happen. And your wedding day is worth remembering every little detail of if you have 2 guests or 200. Elopements and intimate weddings are a valid and beautiful option… and the perfect wedding day experience for many couples.

I always recommend that you start planning with a date night to talk through questions like, “If we could do anything, what would that look like? What are our highest priorities and values right now? What small or big details have you dreamt of for years? What do you want to reminisce on in 40+ years?”

Planning your wedding around the people and with elements that are deeply meaningful to you is very rewarding. It’s an opportunity to create real memories, a wedding experience that FEELS good, and all around… the BEST DAY EVER.

What’s included?

When you hire me, you’re getting more than just a photographer.
With planning assistance available, I’m here to help you navigate your wedding experience every step of the way.

  • Wedding planning doesn’t have to be overwhelming. I’m here for you from the very start! We will have several check ins to discuss everything from basic plans to a detailed timeline walkthrough.

While I am not a replacement for an event coordinating team (if elaborate details will be part of your day, my attention will be focused on you; not coordinating), I will help you navigate planning a day that’s right for you and give advice + connect you with vendors who will make your dreams a reality. If I don’t have a solution for you right away, I will find it for you.

  • Want your “something borrowed” to be your attire? You’re always welcome to use a piece from my client closet.

  • While true self solemnization is not legal in WA State (you still need to have 2 witnesses and an officiant), if you’d like to get as close as possible by reading each other vows with just your witnesses present, I am ordained and can sign your marriage certificate.

  • All the very best of your day in full color as well as black and white copies.

Light retouching (blemishes, scratches; etc.) always included!

  • Prints and products are OPTIONAL so that you may fully customize these to your budget and preferences. To make this as easy as possible, your gallery is pre-loaded into a service called PicTime where you can select favorites to share on social media, email images to family and friends, or select your top favorites to print. This also makes it very convenient for family and friends to purchase what they would like on their own - all you have to do is share your link!

You’ve got options.

While I primarily work with intimate weddings and elopements, it’s not about a certain number of guests or the location. I work with clients who want to have an intentional, simpler; yet deeply meaningful wedding experience that’s less focused on event planning and more on connection with those closest to you.

(Pro tip: want to include more guests without the in person headcount? Choosing a location that can accommodate a video call is a GREAT option to have the best of both worlds. The image below is a couple saying hi to their friends and family around the world at Elope253 in Tacoma, WA.)

What if I don’t want to elope?

The weddings I work with are not limited to a certain number of guests - it’s all about your priorities.

What matters most to you… Do you want to celebrate with all of your family and friends at an epic party to remember? An event-based approach is the way to go. (Make sure you hire a fantastic planning team so you can be fully in the moment and soak it all in!)

Do you want a quieter; more intimate day with less guests but still all your closest people and lots of relaxed time to connect and laugh together? A micro-wedding sounds like a great fit. (Typically 50 or less guests.)

Do you want to escape with just your person and have the most wonderful day - just the two of you + your closest people? Sounds like an elopement is it. (Typically under 10 guests.)

As an introvert, I’ve found I am most creative and serve my couples best in intimate wedding scenarios or at larger event celebrations that have intimate wedding goals. When I’m able to focus all my attention on my couple and their photography priorities (verses an expectation of helping manage the day), I’m able to provide the highest value of service. If highly stylized/editorial images aren’t as important to you as authentic interactions with guests and you want to build in extra buffer so the day feels relaxed, we’d still be a great fit.

Where to elope in Washington State?

I love a good backyard wedding, cabin rental, or curated venue… and wild spaces have my whole heart. If you’re considering having your location outdoors in one of our local parks, I’m here to help you navigate accessing those permits and planning your day in a low impact/Leave No Trace values at the forefront.

Washington State is home to three incredible National Parks; each with wide ranges in environment and access. With everything from lush rainforests and rugged coastal views to cascading mountains, there’s something for everyone. Permitting is typically related to group size, and access points may be limited.

Mt. Rainer National Park

National Parks

WA State has a staggering 124 State Parks; many of which provide incredible (and very affordable) backdrops for elopements or micro weddings. Some have reservable structures; others simply surround you with their natural beauty. Availability and permitting can change - we’ll always check in with the rangers before applying to make sure we have the most recent information.

State Parks

Federally managed forest lands range widely in ecology from lush rainforest spaces to alpine lakes, glacial rivers, and arid deserts. Permitting and access vary per location.

How to legally get married in WA State:

To legally get married in Washington State, you’ll need:

  • A marriage license (procured at least 3 days prior to your date and used within 60 days)

  • An officiant

  • 2 witnesses (must be 18 years or older)

Notes that totally made my day:

“WWWOOOOOWWW! Wow!! We LOVE the photos! Surely, words fail. If I can think of a song that captures how I feel, I'll share it, but know Heather that M. and myself are ecstatic with how the photos turned out. And there's so many of them; and such variety! We are ecstatic! THANK YOU.”

— N & M

“Can’t say enough nice things! Heather photographed our wedding and was JUST what we hoped for. She was flexible, professional, easy to talk to, and did a fantastic job! We had a lot of portrait photos with extended family combinations and she was amazing and getting folks lined up and organized without it feeling like a big deal at all. Once we booked with Heather, I had zero photographer stress throughout the months leading up to the wedding, as well as day-of. Our beautiful photos were ready for us super quick and we absolutely love them! Thank you, Heather!!”

— M & A

“Wow!  I cannot thank you enough for these beautiful pictures. I thought we’d get a handful of pictures, and all I really wanted was a picture to frame and hold onto as we get old(er).  But you went above and beyond.  I can’t stop looking at them!  You captured us - all of our excitement and nerves on that day, our goofiness, and our love for each other and our friends and family.

Thank you so much!”
